Best Time to Visit Belgium: Month-by-Month Guide (2026)

9 min read June 2026 EasyTrip Editorial Team

Belgium is a compact, year-round destination that rewards visitors in every season. The medieval cities of Bruges and Ghent are beautiful in any weather, Brussels is a world-class capital with exceptional food and culture, and the Ardennes forest offers outdoor escapes year-round. Here's when to go.

Belgium Weather Overview

Belgium has a temperate maritime climate — mild, wet, and changeable. Summers are warm (18–24°C) but rarely hot. Winters are cold and grey (2–7°C). Rain is possible year-round. The Ardennes in the southeast is colder and snowier in winter than the coast and cities.

Spring (March–May): Best for Cities

Spring is one of the best times to visit Belgium. The cities come alive, the parks and gardens bloom, and the tourist crowds are manageable. April and May are particularly good — temperatures reach 14–18°C, the Ghent Floraliën flower festival (every 5 years, next in 2025) and the Brussels Jazz Weekend (late May) are highlights. The Belgian coast in May is quiet and beautiful.

Summer (June–August): Peak Season

Summer is the most popular time to visit Belgium. The long days, warm temperatures, and outdoor festival culture make it the most enjoyable season. Ghent Festival (Gentse Feesten) in July is one of the largest free street festivals in Europe — 10 days of music, theatre, and street performance that transforms the entire city. Brussels Summer Festival and the Tomorrowland electronic music festival (Boom, July) are also major draws. Bruges in summer is very busy — visit early morning or evening to enjoy the canals without the crowds.

Autumn (September–November): Quiet and Golden

September and October are excellent months. The summer crowds thin, prices drop, and the autumn light in Bruges and Ghent is particularly beautiful. The Ardennes forest turns spectacular shades of gold and red through October. November is quieter and greyer but the Christmas market preparations begin in late November.

Winter (December–February): Christmas Markets

Belgium has some of the finest Christmas markets in Europe. Brussels Winter Wonders (late November through January) transforms the Grand Place and surrounding streets into a magical winter festival. Bruges Christmas Market around the Markt square is equally beautiful. January and February are the quietest and cheapest months — cold but atmospheric.
